In March 2018 Mr. Bill Otieno fell victim of police brutality after being assaulted by General Service Unit (GSU) a highly specialized, elite paramilitary division of the National Police Service. The unfortunate incident According to Mr. Otieno, was the turning point that inspired his commitment to press freedom activism and advocacy. He says the incident exposed him to the risks faced by journalists and citizens while exercising their constitutional rights and made him realize the importance of defending freedom of expression, media independence, and human rights.
