Nairobi — Principal Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Shadrack Mwadime has challenged Kenyan youth to embrace unity and purpose as a pathway to transforming the country into a first-world economy.

Speaking during a UDA Kumi Bila Break Movement breakfast meeting held in Nairobi, PS Mwadime called on emerging political youth movements and initiatives to come together in advocating for youth empowerment, particularly in talent development and professional training.

He emphasized that young people hold a unique opportunity to propel Kenya to the next level through labour mobility programmes that enable skilled Kenyan professionals to access employment opportunities in developed countries—an initiative he said has already begun to yield positive results.

“Our intention is to secure good jobs for Kenyan youth abroad. Human beings are social beings; you must give them an opportunity to go out there, gain technology as it is currently, make savings, and then come back home as investors,” Mwadime said.

The PS further cautioned youth against engaging in toxic political environments that could fuel instability and anarchy, urging them instead to take advantage of government-backed opportunities such as labour mobility and skills development programmes.

“This is a model that exists in other countries; it is not new. What we are implementing will expand our economy, increase the living standards of Kenyans, and take us to first-world status.” He Added

The Kenyan government has in recent years intensified efforts to promote labour mobility as a key strategy to address youth unemployment. This includes securing overseas job opportunities through bilateral labour agreements with various countries.

Also addressing the meeting was Kumi Bila Break Movement National Chairman Idris Mohammed, who underscored the importance of regional and grassroots youth mobilization in support of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Mohammed called on UDA’s top leadership to recognize and support youth-led initiatives that champion youth representation and address young people’s concerns within the current administration.

“We have existed for two years with a wide national network. We currently have eight regional and 290 sub-county coordinators across the country who are raising awareness on President Ruto’s development agenda and UDA interests,” Mohammed said.

The meeting brought together youth leaders and political mobilizers aligned to the ruling party, highlighting the growing role of organized youth movements in shaping Kenya’s political and economic future.
