The final contingent of 150 officers from the National Police Service has returned home from Haiti, bringing to a close Kenya’s 22-month, 7-day deployment under the UN-backed, Kenya-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission..

The officers arrived on April 28, 2026, marking the official conclusion of a historic international security assignment that saw a total of 730 Kenyan officers serve in Haiti in support of efforts to restore law and order in the Caribbean nation.

The returning team was accompanied by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Inspector General Douglas Kanja, National Security Advisor Joseph Boinett, Kenya’s Consul General to Haiti Noor Gabow, and Director of Security Operations in the Administration Police Service Jackson Kangani, who had earlier traveled to Haiti for high-level engagements with local authorities.

At the airport, the officers—led by MSSM Force Commander Godfrey Otunge—were received by senior government officials and diplomats, including Ambassador Monica Juma and Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Abraham Sing’Oei.

Speaking during the homecoming ceremony, CS Murkomen commended the officers for their sacrifice, professionalism, discipline, and unwavering dedication despite operating in a highly complex and volatile security environment.

He noted that Kenyan officers, working alongside the Haitian National Police and other MSS personnel, played a vital role in securing critical infrastructure, including airports and seaports, while also supporting the reopening of schools and hospitals and the resumption of police training.

Murkomen also led a moment of silence in honour of three Kenyan officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during the mission.

Inspector General Kanja, in his remarks, hailed the officers for completing what many had initially considered an impossible assignment.

He credited President William Ruto for his steadfast support and strategic leadership, and extended gratitude to the officers’ families for their unwavering encouragement throughout the deployment.

For Kenya, the Haiti mission will remain a defining chapter in its history of international service—one marked by courage, sacrifice, and leadership on the world stage.
