TEHRAN, (Prime Africa) – Iran is calling on the United Nations Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to intervene urgently following mounting threats from Israel against its nuclear infrastructure.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a strongly worded letter on Thursday, urged international authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety of Iran’s nuclear facilities, which Tehran insists are for peaceful purposes.

“The threats of this regime to attack Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities and infrastructure pose a serious threat to peace and security at both regional and international levels,” Araghchi stated, referencing Israel’s recent posturing. “It is necessary for the UN Security Council, bearing responsibility for maintaining peace and stability at the international level, to take immediate and effective measures against these threats.”

The statement follows a CNN report on Tuesday, which cited unnamed US officials indicating that Israel may be preparing a pre-emptive strike on Iranian nuclear sites.

Iran has made it clear that it views any military action on its soil as an act of aggression. Araghchi warned that Tehran would take all necessary steps to safeguard its nuclear infrastructure and would keep the IAEA informed of such measures.

Crucially, the Iranian diplomat emphasized that if Israel were to carry out an attack, Iran would hold the United States accountable as an accomplice, given Washington’s longstanding support for Israel.

“In case of any Israeli aggression, the Islamic Republic of Iran will respond decisively,” Araghchi added.

The international community is now watching closely as tensions between Iran and Israel threaten to spiral into broader regional instability. Analysts note that this development may test the resolve of global institutions such as the UN and IAEA, particularly in their capacity to mediate rising hostilities in the Middle East.
