Jubilee presidential flagbearer Fred Matiang’i has sharply criticized what he termed as a “historic wastage of public resources,” singling out the growing budget allocation to State House Nairobi as a symbol of misplaced government priorities.
Speaking during a church service in Murang’a County, Matiang’i questioned why the presidency requires significantly more funding than critical national institutions such as the Kenya National Trading Corporation.
He argued that expanding the State House budget cannot be justified at a time when key public sectors continue to struggle financially.
“Why should State House need more money than KNTRC? No children are being born there,” he said, alleging that the inflated budget is often used for political patronage and bribery.
The former Interior Cabinet Secretary pledged that, if elected, he would cut the State House budget by up to 80 percent and redirect the funds to priority sectors that directly benefit Kenyans.
Matiang’i also criticized the current administration over what he described as confusion and lack of direction in the education sector, saying the public is constantly presented with new explanations rather than clear policy solutions.
According to him, leadership should be defined by work, accountability, and tangible results, arguing that some politicians have remained in office for years without demonstrating meaningful achievements.
He emphasized that Kenya’s progress has always been driven by hard work and collective effort, adding that he is ready to work with leaders across political divides to move the country forward.
The remarks were made as Matiang’i attended a church service at Weithaga ACK Church, where a foundation stone was laid for a new conference centre. He was received by Timothy Gichere of the Diocese of Mount Kenya Central.
