The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan has downplayed calls by Hassan Joho to be considered for the Deputy President position in the 2027 General Election, insisting the ruling party has its own structured plans.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with UDA leaders in Nyali, Mombasa, Omar dismissed what he termed as “political shenanigans,” warning that the party would not entertain distractions from its roadmap.

“We are seeing busy bodies claiming to be Coast kingpins. We do not wish to have a kingpin because we know how that will be used politically. We will lobby as a unified group, which will make it easier for the President to listen to us,” said Omar.

He emphasized that UDA is focused on strengthening its grassroots structures across the Coastal region, expressing confidence that the party will gain a stronger foothold.

Omar announced that the party will conduct grassroots elections on April 9, urging members to embrace unity regardless of the outcomes.

“We are going to have grassroots elections on the 9th next month. Let us use that process to strengthen our party. Those who lose are still part of us, just like those who win. There should be no infighting going forward,” he affirmed.

At the same time, the UDA Secretary General challenged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to prepare for a competitive race, reiterating that there will be no zoning arrangements in the next election cycle.

“I’m telling our broad-based brothers and sisters to be ready to face off at the ballot. They should mobilize their supporters as we have already started,” he said.

Omar also criticized sections of the opposition, accusing them of engaging in personal attacks against William Ruto, warning that UDA supporters would respond politically.

Meanwhile, LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority Chairman Ali Mbogo called on UDA leaders in Mombasa to unite and intensify grassroots mobilization efforts in support of President Ruto’s re-election bid.

Mbogo praised the government’s development record in the Coastal counties, urging residents to back the President for a second term.

“We must come together and mobilize our people to support President William Ruto. He has demonstrated his commitment to the Coastal region, and we can reciprocate by giving him another term,” Mbogo stated.

He also took aim at Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, vowing that UDA will prioritize unseating the current Mombasa Governor in 2027.

“We have many objectives in Mombasa, but our top priority is to send the current governor home. In our view, he has not delivered, and we will ensure change comes in 2027,” he added.

The remarks come as UDA intensifies political engagements across the Coastal region, holding a series of consultative meetings aimed at consolidating support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
