KYUSHU, Japan – An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.1, with its epicenter in the Kumamoto region of Kumamoto Prefecture, occurred around 4:27 p.m. on Tuesday. A seismic intensity of 7 on the Japanese scale was recorded in the Kumamoto region, and a lower 6 in Amakusa and Ashikita. The epicenter was at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
