Twenty-seven police officers drawn from the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have safely returned to the country following a successful deployment under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
The officers, led by Contingent Commander Mr. Dennis Wekesa, SSP, were received today at the National Police Service (NPS) headquarters at Jogoo House by Mr. Mathew Kutoh, SAIG, the Principal Assistant to the Inspector General of Police. Mr. Kutoh represented the Inspector General, Mr. Douglas Kanja, during the homecoming event.

In his remarks, Mr. Kutoh warmly welcomed the officers back and commended them for their service, urging them to reintegrate with their colleagues and continue serving the Kenyan public with renewed vigor. He encouraged the returning officers to leverage the skills and experiences acquired during their international mission to enhance service delivery and transform police stations into centers of excellence.
Mr. Kutoh further acknowledged the exemplary conduct of the contingent, highlighting that no disciplinary cases had been reported throughout their tour of duty in Somalia. He praised the team for upholding the highest standards of professionalism, noting that their performance had been a credit to the National Police Service and a testament to Kenya’s commitment to regional peace and security.

Also present at the reception were key NPS officials, including the Director of Human Capital Development, Dr. Mwangi Wanderi, SAIG; Director of Reforms, Mr. John Kamau, AIG; Deputy Director of Human Capital Development, Madam Joyce Kanda, AIG; and the NPS Staff Officer for Peace Support Operations, Mr. Albert Masese, CP, among other senior officers. |
The return of the officers marks yet another milestone in Kenya’s contribution to peacekeeping efforts in the Horn of Africa under the ATMIS framework, which continues to play a vital role in stabilizing Somalia.
