Kenya’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Halima Mucheke, has urged residents of Meru County to rally behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, warning that a shift in political leadership could derail ongoing development projects in the region.
Speaking during Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s development tour of North Imenti Constituency, Mucheke called on locals to register as voters and participate actively in the upcoming elections to secure continued government support.
She emphasized that sustained backing of the Kenya Kwanza administration is critical to maintaining the pace of development, cautioning that a change in government could slow or stall key infrastructure and economic initiatives currently underway.
The envoy lauded the administration for initiating development projects in the county and appointing leaders from the region to senior government positions, describing the efforts as a clear indication of inclusivity and commitment to equitable growth.
Mucheke also pointed to improved returns in agriculture, noting that farmers are benefiting from rising coffee and milk prices. She attributed the gains to targeted government interventions aimed at revitalizing key sectors and improving livelihoods.
Expressing confidence in the government’s long-term economic transformation agenda, she said the current administration has laid out strategic plans to drive national development and uplift communities across the country.
Looking ahead, Mucheke indicated that leaders from the region are expected to support Deputy President Kindiki’s potential presidential bid in 2032, following the completion of President Ruto’s term.
She further noted that she is working closely with North Imenti Member of Parliament Rahim Dawood to ensure equitable distribution of development projects across the constituency.
