Mombasa, Kenya – Authorities in Mombasa County have launched a full-scale investigation following the sudden deaths of four residents in Matangini Village, Migadini, sparking alarm within the local community.
In a statement issued Monday by the County Department of Health, officials confirmed that the fatalities occurred over a span of five days — between July 9th and 14th, 2025. The victims include three men and one woman, aged between 55 and 91, all of whom were discovered dead in their homes under unclear circumstances.
Two of the bodies were reportedly found in the early stages of decomposition, raising further questions about the timing and cause of the deaths.

County health officials stated that preliminary findings indicate all four individuals had underlying chronic health conditions. One of the deceased had recently been treated for dengue fever, another was known to suffer from asthma, and the oldest, a 91-year-old woman, had a yet-to-be-specified long-term illness.
“The remains have been transferred to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations, which are expected to shed more light on the cause of death,” the department’s statement said.
While there is currently no evidence pointing to an infectious outbreak, the county government is urging residents to exercise caution and observe strict public health measures. Authorities are asking community members to avoid handling human remains, report missing persons promptly, and maintain high standards of hygiene, including frequent handwashing and the use of sanitizers.
“The Department of Health continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available,” the statement added.
Residents who experience unusual symptoms or feel unwell are advised to seek immediate medical attention. The county has also activated its Public Health Emergency Operations Center and is calling on anyone with relevant information or concerns to contact them directly.
This developing situation has heightened anxiety in Matangini, a densely populated area within the Likoni sub-county, as families await answers and officials intensify surveillance and outreach.
