Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has ended mounting speculation over his future by affirming his commitment to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr for the upcoming season.
The 40-year-old superstar, who joined Al Nassr in January 2023 on a highly publicized contract set to expire this June, appeared to close the door on transfer rumours during a post-match interview after Portugal’s victory over Spain in the UEFA Nations League final.
“Nothing will change,” Ronaldo said when pressed about his next move, strongly indicating his intention to remain with Al Nassr despite previous hints at a possible departure.

His comments come days after a cryptic social media post following Al Nassr’s final game of the season, in which he wrote, “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.” The message sparked widespread speculation that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner might be eyeing a new challenge, possibly in the United States.
Observers had linked Ronaldo with a potential move to one of the clubs participating in the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup set to take place this June in the U.S. Despite a wave of interest from qualified teams, Ronaldo has officially ruled out any appearance at the tournament.
“It’s a decision practically made on my part not to go to the Club World Cup, but I’ve had quite a few invitations to go,” Ronaldo told reporters. “Some things make sense to talk about, other things don’t… You have to think about the short, medium, and long term.”
Al Nassr failed to secure a spot in the expanded 32-team Club World Cup, dealing a blow to the aspirations of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who had reportedly hoped to include Ronaldo in the global showpiece to boost its visibility and star power.
For now, Ronaldo’s focus remains firmly with Al Nassr and Portugal, with preparations for the UEFA Euro 2028 qualifiers already underway. While the football world may have to wait longer to see him on a U.S. pitch, his enduring commitment to his current club adds another chapter to his storied career in global football.
