The Macadamia Association of Kenya (MACNUT) has elected a new board following its Annual General Meeting held on February 27, 2026, ushering in a new leadership team at a critical time for Kenya’s macadamia sector.
The newly constituted board will be chaired by Pally Muthathai, with Bernard Sitati serving as Treasurer, Lisa Muriuki as Secretary, and Joel Kobia and Amir Yusuf as Directors.
Speaking after the election, Muthathai said the association will prioritise strengthening collaboration across the macadamia value chain, including closer engagement with government institutions and regulators.
“We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders across the macadamia value chain, including the relevant ministries and government authorities. We are grateful for the support that has been accorded to us so far, and we are committed to deepening these engagements for the benefit of the entire industry,” he said.
The new leadership takes office as Kenya’s macadamia industry navigates shifting export dynamics and increasing calls for enhanced farmer support.
Muthathai emphasised that farmer welfare will remain at the core of the association’s agenda, with a focus on unlocking new market opportunities in key global destinations such as the United States, Europe, and China.
“Our farmers are the backbone of this industry. Ensuring they receive fair value for their produce and have access to the right knowledge and support is our top priority,” he added.
Kenya remains one of the world’s leading producers of macadamia nuts, with the crop serving as a key source of income for more than 200,000 people across the domestic value chain.
As part of its strategy, the board plans to scale up technical support through farmer training and extension services centred on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). The initiative is expected to boost yields, improve nut quality, and sustain Kenya’s competitiveness in international markets.
The association also acknowledged the role of the interim leadership in maintaining continuity during the transition period.
“We thank the Interim Committee for guiding the Association during the transition period. Their stewardship has helped maintain engagement with industry stakeholders while laying the groundwork for the new board,” Muthathai said.
The board reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with both public and private sector players, including processors, exporters, and farmer organisations, as it works toward establishing a permanent secretariat.
“The board will serve as the primary point of contact for official communications, partnerships and sector engagements within the industry,” Muthathai noted.
