The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, officially flagged off a large-scale relief food distribution exercise at Chakaleri Grounds in Mwatate Constituency. This vital initiative comes as part of the Government’s ongoing nationwide efforts to support vulnerable communities facing acute food insecurity due to prolonged drought and other harsh climatic conditions.
Hundreds of Residents from across the constituency gathered to receive the food assistance and welcomed the Government’s timely intervention with great appreciation. The support, which includes essential food items, is expected to offer much-needed relief to households that have been severely affected by the current hunger season.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ruku reaffirmed the Government’s steadfast commitment to protecting the welfare of all citizens, especially those most affected by poverty and climate-induced challenges. He emphasized the importance of rapid response, accountability, and the need to reach every corner of the country with lifesaving support.
“The National Government remains at the forefront in ensuring no Kenyan is left behind during difficult times,” Hon. The Cabinet Secretary was joined by several key leaders, including the area Member of Parliament Hon. Peter Shake, County Commissioner Madam Josephine Onunga, Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and other national leaders. Their presence reflected a strong show of unity and collaboration between the National Government and local leadership in addressing community needs.
Hon. Peter Shake lauded the efforts of the Ministry and expressed gratitude to the Government for prioritizing the people of Mwatate during this challenging period. He further called for continued coordination to ensure effective and equitable distribution of relief supplies.
County Commissioner Madam Josephine Onunga reiterated the commitment of the County Security and Administrative teams to support the implementation of relief programmes across the constituency. She urged residents to remain vigilant, united, and cooperative as the Government continues to roll out additional support measures.
