The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) has kicked off a five-day advanced training program in Nairobi aimed at boosting the region’s capacity to combat terrorism financing and money laundering.
The training, titled “Counter Terrorism Financing and Anti-Money Laundering – Advanced Level,” brings together specialists from Kenya and other member states working across banking, finance, security, and regulatory agencies.
Speaking during the opening session, the Deputy Commander of Kenya’s Army, Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, said the program aligns with IMCTC’s Capacity Building strategy, which seeks to equip member states with modern tools and skills necessary to disrupt the financial networks that enable terrorism.
“This initiative enhances our readiness and strengthens our national and regional mechanisms against financial crimes tied to terrorism,” he said.

The workshop has convened financial compliance directors, investigators, AML/CFT experts, supervisory authorities, and security professionals—providing a broad platform for collaboration and cross-sector knowledge sharing.
The advanced curriculum dives deep into international legal frameworks, emerging terrorism-financing methods, sophisticated money-laundering channels, and digital technologies for detection and analysis. Leadership development and compliance management within financial institutions also form a core part of the program.
Throughout the week, participants will engage in practical scenarios, case-based learning, and technical simulations designed to improve their ability to track suspicious transactions, decode complex financial patterns, and apply globally recognized AML/CFT standards.
IMCTC leaders say the training reinforces the coalition’s long-term commitment to supporting member states in strengthening their counter-terrorism systems and contributing to global efforts to dismantle financial threats linked to extremist activity.
The Nairobi program marks another significant step in advancing regional expertise and cooperation in the fight against terrorism financing.
