NAIROBI, Kenya (Prime Africa) – Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with China, as high-level engagements between Nairobi and Beijing signal renewed momentum toward shared economic transformation.
In a meeting held on Wednesday, Kenyan officials hosted a delegation from the China Exim Bank led by Chairman Chen Huaiyu, accompanied by China’s Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Guyo Haiyan. The discussions focused on expanding the foundation of the two nations’ long-standing partnership and aligning China’s support with Kenya’s new roadmap toward becoming a first-world economy.

Kenya expressed appreciation for the continued confidence shown by Chinese enterprises operating in the country, noting that their growing presence reflects trust in Kenya’s stability and investment climate. The China Exim Bank, a key financier of Kenya’s major infrastructure developments, was lauded for its sustained support—particularly in transport, energy, and technical and vocational education programmes.
During the meeting, Kenya outlined its ambitious economic transformation plan, which prioritises:
-
Expanding energy generation capacity to 10,000 MW
-
Developing 50 mega dams to boost irrigation and strengthen food security
-
Delivering transformative infrastructure, including dualing 2,500 km of highways and constructing 20,000 km of roads
-
Enhancing airport and port infrastructure
-
Extending the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to the Uganda border
These megaprojects, the delegation noted, represent significant opportunities for deeper collaboration between Kenya and China, particularly through the China Exim Bank and Chinese private-sector investors eager to broaden their footprint in Kenya.
Both parties reaffirmed that the partnership, rooted in mutual benefit and shared progress, will continue to play a central role in driving Kenya’s long-term development goals.
