Nairobi, Kenya (Prime Africa News) – Kenya, over the past fortnight, has played host to one of the world’s most celebrated filmmakers, S. S. Rajamouli, the visionary Indian director, screenwriter, and storyteller whose works have captivated audiences across continents.

During his two-week stay in the country, Rajamouli and a crew of 120 filmed key scenes for the highly anticipated Sh.20 billion blockbuster, SSMB29. The production was hosted by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, underscoring the importance of the collaboration.

Rajamouli—renowned for fusing powerful narratives with groundbreaking visuals and profound cultural depth—chose Kenya as the primary filming destination after an extensive scouting tour across East Africa, including Uganda and Tanzania. Nearly 95% of the film’s African scenes were shot in Kenya.

The locations featured in the movie include the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara, the serene shores of Naivasha, the rugged terrains of Samburu, and the majestic backdrop of Amboseli. These iconic landscapes are now etched into what is poised to become the largest film production in Asia.

Set for release in over 120 countries, SSMB29 is expected to reach more than one billion viewers worldwide.

For Kenya, this is more than just a cinematic milestone. It is a landmark moment that positions the nation as a premier destination for film, tourism, and global partnerships. By showcasing its natural beauty, cultural richness, and unmatched hospitality on an international stage, Kenya stands to reap long-term benefits across multiple sectors.

Speaking as the crew prepared to depart for India to continue production, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi said Kenya is proud to have hosted the historic project:

“This production highlights Kenya’s unique ability to tell stories that resonate globally. We are ready to share our story with the world and strengthen our position as a hub for film, tourism, and international collaboration.”

With the world eagerly awaiting SSMB29, Kenya now shines as both a backdrop for cinematic excellence and a rising star in the global creative economy.
