Imenti Constituency, Kenya – Members of Parliament from Meru County have sharply criticized Oburu Odinga over remarks suggesting interest in the Deputy President’s position currently held by Kithure Kindiki, warning that the seat is neither vacant nor open to political negotiations.

Speaking at a public rally in Central Imenti Constituency, the legislators cautioned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) against attempting to include the Deputy President’s post in any potential political arrangements with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election. They emphasized that the position is constitutionally occupied and should not be subjected to political bargaining.

The leaders further argued that ODM should prioritize resolving its internal leadership wrangles before laying claim to senior government positions. According to them, while the opposition party grapples with internal disputes, the ruling party is focused on strengthening grassroots structures and preparing early for the 2027 polls.

Nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni affirmed that Meru residents remain firmly aligned with the Kenya Kwanza administration led by William Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki, dismissing suggestions that the region’s support is wavering.

Central Imenti MP Kirima Nguchine reiterated that the Deputy President’s office is not vacant and warned against any interference with Prof. Kindiki’s mandate. His sentiments were echoed by Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi, who stated that the government is delivering on its development promises and that the opposition has yet to present a credible alternative agenda to Kenyans.

The Meru legislators concluded by vowing to politically defend the Deputy President’s seat, insisting it remains firmly in place as the country gradually shifts focus toward the 2027 General Election.
