Mombasa, Kenya – Coastal leaders allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Tuesday held a political sensitization engagement in Mombasa, rallying residents to support President William Ruto and his development agenda in the region.
The meeting is part of an ongoing coastal mobilization tour by UDA leaders aimed at strengthening grassroots support and consolidating the party’s presence across the region ahead of future political contests. Leaders who addressed residents highlighted the government’s commitment to inclusivity and equitable development, pointing to several ongoing and completed projects in the coastal counties as evidence of progress under the national administration.

Led by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, the leaders emphasized the importance of unity within the coastal region, noting that cohesion would enable residents to benefit more from government initiatives. Omar took aim at Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, accusing his administration of underperformance and urging residents to hold county leadership accountable.
“There is nothing he has done since he took over leadership in Mombasa. The developments you are seeing have largely been undertaken by the national government,” Omar claimed.
He further dismissed ongoing political zoning debates, arguing that leaders who have delivered on their mandates have no reason to fear democratic competition.

“We are telling our broad-based partners that we can collaborate at the presidential level, but at other levels, our members will face each other at the ballot,” Omar stated.
Omar also criticized what he termed as attempts by the governor to gain political sympathy through associations with opposition leader Raila Odinga, saying such tactics were no longer effective.
He urged residents to register as UDA members ahead of the party’s grassroots elections scheduled for the 23rd of this month, stressing that the party remains focused on addressing long-standing social and economic challenges in the region.
Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya said the Coast now enjoys a stronger voice in national governance, attributing this to increased representation in key government positions.
He called on residents to register as voters and support President Ruto’s bid for a second term.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi revealed that he has been in consultations with the President regarding plans to fold his Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party into UDA, in a move aimed at strengthening the ruling party’s national footprint.
UDA Deputy Party Leader Issa Timamy urged coastal residents to make informed political choices, warning against decisions that could undermine the region’s future development.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to securing President Ruto’s re-election, stating that their primary focus remains consolidating support at the presidential level while preparing the party for competitive grassroots and national elections.
