Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oleksandr Mishchenko, on February 27, 2025, held high-level bilateral talks with the United Kingdom’s Minister of Foreign Office for Europe, North America, and Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty. The meeting took place during Doughty’s two-day working visit to Ukraine, underscoring the deepening cooperation between the two nations as Ukraine continues its fight against Russian aggression.

Mishchenko expressed Ukraine’s gratitude for the United Kingdom’s steadfast support, highlighting the significant military, political, economic, and humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine since the invasion began. He called for continued British leadership and urged the UK to enhance its efforts to secure a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

Central to the discussions were the shared commitments to the guiding principles of “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine” and “achieving peace through force,” reaffirming the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Key areas of discussion included the further strengthening of the Ukrainian-British strategic partnership. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued political dialogue and collaboration in the military sphere. The alignment of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic ambitions with the United Kingdom’s security concerns also featured prominently, with the two sides committing to reinforce Ukraine’s security guarantees and ramp up sanctions pressure against Russia. Special mention was made of the importance of trilateral cooperation among Kyiv, London, and Warsaw to support Ukraine’s ongoing defense efforts.

The conversation also touched on the future of the Centennial Partnership Agreement and the resumption of the Strategic Partnership Dialogue between Ukraine and the United Kingdom. This dialogue aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in a range of sectors, from defense to economic growth, and to foster greater alignment on international security issues.

In addition, Mishchenko extended his gratitude to the British government for supporting the UN General Assembly resolution “Promoting Inclusive, Fair, and Sustainable Peace in Ukraine” adopted on February 24, 2025. He further urged the UK to continue its leadership role in the formation of an International Special Tribunal to address the crime of aggression committed by Russia against Ukraine.

Doughty, in turn, reaffirmed the UK’s unwavering commitment to Ukraine, emphasizing the country’s readiness to continue deepening its partnership with Ukraine in the face of Russian armed aggression. He assured Ukraine of ongoing British support, both in terms of military aid and diplomatic advocacy on the international stage.

The talks between Mishchenko and Doughty underscore the growing and unshakeable alliance between Ukraine and the United Kingdom, as both countries work together to confront the ongoing threat from Russia and pave the way for a peaceful and secure future for Ukraine.
