IShowSpeed Takes Kenya by Storm on ‘Speed Does Africa’ IRL Tour

American content creator and global internet sensation IShowSpeed has arrived in Kenya as part of his ambitious 28-day in-real-life (IRL) tour across Africa, dubbed “Speed Does Africa.” The tour, one of the streamer’s biggest live projects to date, has already attracted millions of viewers worldwide—and Kenya has quickly emerged as a standout destination.

President William Ruto on Sunday warmly welcomed the 20-year-old streamer, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr, praising the country’s vibrancy and spirit.
“Kenya is not just another country; Kenya is a pulse, a feeling. Kenya is home. This is Magical Kenya,” President Ruto said in a video message shared during Speed’s visit.

Speed aired his 13th livestream of the African tour on Sunday morning, beginning with a visit to Upper Hill School, where he interacted with students and even took part in a rugby game—much to the delight of fans watching live across the globe.

His tour of Nairobi continued at Kenyatta Market, where he was met by a mammoth crowd of enthusiastic fans eager to catch a glimpse of the globally revered streamer. Chants and cheers filled the air as supporters surged around him, underscoring his massive popularity among Kenyan youth.

One of the most dramatic highlights of the day came during his visit to the Nairobi National Park. In a rare and thrilling experience streamed live, Speed fed a hyena, lions, a leopard and a cheetah, drawing awe from both his online audience and on-site spectators. His exit from the park turned into a spectacle, as hundreds of fans escorted him on motorcycles along Lang’ata Road, chanting, “We love you, IShowSpeed!”

The excitement continued at the iconic Carnivore Restaurant, where Speed sampled a wide variety of meats in a culinary experience that showcased Kenya’s famed hospitality.

During the livestream, Speed revealed that his Kenyan stop had delivered the highest subscriber growth of his entire African tour so far.

“We are about to hit 47.9 million. I don’t think you understand how crazy that is. No other country so far in this tour has been able to gain this amount of subs in one stream. Kenya is so far number one,” he told his audience.

Speed began his African journey in South Africa, where he famously raced a cheetah, before immersing himself in the cultures of Mozambique, Botswana and Angola. His first visit to Kenya is expected to include more high-profile stops, meetings with prominent personalities, and visits to key cultural and tourism landmarks.

Beyond entertainment, Speed’s Africa tour has sparked widespread online discussion. His livestreams—highlighting warm receptions and positive interactions with locals—are reportedly challenging long-held stereotypes in the United States about Africa being unsafe or unwelcoming to visitors.

Kenya’s tourism sector has also embraced the moment. Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano welcomed the streamer, encouraging him to sample more Kenyan delicacies and visit world-renowned attractions such as the Maasai Mara and other national parks.

As fans continue to throng the streets and millions tune in online, IShowSpeed’s Kenyan chapter is shaping up to be one of the most memorable moments of his African tour—placing the country firmly in the global digital spotlight.
