KAMPALA, Uganda — Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for another five-year term during a grand inauguration ceremony held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in the capital, Kampala, marking the continuation of his decades-long leadership of the East African nation.
The 81-year-old leader took the oath of office on Tuesday in a ceremony attended by Heads of State, regional leaders, and international dignitaries, as thousands of supporters gathered to witness the event. His new term further extends one of Africa’s longest presidencies.
Museveni was formally handed ceremonial instruments of power as crowds cheered inside and around the Kololo venue, where tight security and military pageantry defined the inauguration atmosphere.
A major feature of the event was a large-scale military parade coordinated under the supervision of his son and Uganda’s army chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The rehearsals for the parade had reportedly taken several days leading up to the ceremony.
The inauguration display also included a flyover of Russian-made Sukhoi fighter jets, which roared across the skies above Kololo, underscoring Uganda’s military strength during the high-profile state occasion.
Regional heads of state and foreign representatives joined Ugandan officials in witnessing the ceremony, which highlighted both continuity and political significance in Uganda’s governance trajectory under Museveni’s long-standing administration.
The event marked yet another chapter in Museveni’s rule, which has shaped Uganda’s political landscape for nearly four decades.
