Taita Taveta – Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has announced a major government initiative to equip Moi County Referral Hospital with modern medical infrastructure, including MRI machines, digital X-rays, dialysis units, and fully equipped theatres.
Speaking during a tour of the facility, Hon. Duale said the upgrades are part of the revamped National Equipment Services Program aimed at addressing service delivery gaps in county hospitals.
He also launched a digital health rollout, confirming that 371 digital devices have been dispatched to Taita Taveta County, with 206 trained health workers deployed to operate them. The digital system, he noted, will help detect fraud and eliminate unlicensed facilities, over 1,000 of which have already been closed nationwide.
Hon. Duale further called on Kenyans to report suspicious activities related to the Social Health Authority (SHA) via the toll-free number *147# and urged parents to ensure children are vaccinated during the national measles-rubella and typhoid campaign starting July 5.
Governor Andrew Mwadime welcomed the initiative, saying, “This investment in our referral hospital is timely and transformative. It will ease the burden on our residents and bring quality services closer to the people.”
The CS was accompanied by Governor Mwadime, Deputy Governor Christine Saru, and SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, among other officials.
