Nairobi, Kenya — The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) has concluded a five-day specialized training in Nairobi focused on Countering Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering – Foundational Level. The program is part of the coalition’s ongoing efforts to strengthen member states’ capacity to combat financial crimes linked to terrorism.

The training brought together high-ranking security and defense officials, including Eastern Command boss Major General Luka K. Kutto, senior military officers, and representatives from Kenya’s legislative, regulatory, and financial sectors. Participants underscored the urgent need to enhance partnerships, improve capacity, and intensify cross-border coordination to disrupt criminal networks that fund terrorism.
Adopting a practical approach, the sessions covered legal frameworks, financial analysis tools, international cooperation mechanisms, and preventive strategies. Participants were equipped with skills to detect suspicious financial activities, verify information using credible sources, and accurately report cases involving terrorism financing.
Trainers placed strong emphasis on leveraging data analysis tools, applying digital investigation techniques, and adhering to ethical reporting standards—particularly to strengthen the media’s role in exposing and countering illicit financial flows.
According to IMCTC, the program aligns with United Nations Security Council resolutions and global anti-money laundering standards, reinforcing the coalition’s commitment to assisting member states in the fight against terrorism.
