NAIROBI, Kenya — Leading telecommunications firm Safaricom PLC has been honored as the best overall institution at the 8th Edition of the National Diversity and Inclusion Awards and Recognition (DIAR Awards). The prestigious ceremony, held in Nairobi, celebrated organizations and individuals that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to advancing inclusion, equity, impact, and sustainability within their sectors.
The event served as a powerful platform for public and private sector leaders, as well as education stakeholders, to showcase how they are embedding these core values into their operational frameworks to drive meaningful social change.
Among the notable recognitions in the government sector, the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), led by CEO Madam Gladys Masai, was honored for its dedicated efforts in advancing inclusive STEM education.
The awards also highlighted grassroots leadership, recognizing individuals like Madam Claire Aregae Ebenyo, a principal from AiC Kanyitit in Turkana County, for her outstanding contributions toward expanding access to education in marginalized communities.
Mr. James Maina, the event organizer for the 8th edition of the DIAR Awards, emphasized that these recognitions reflect a growing national movement.
“This recognition reflects the growing commitment by institutions to embed inclusion and sustainability at the core of their work,” Mr. Maina stated, noting that the awardees are setting a new standard for leadership in Kenya.
Safaricom’s top honor underscores its continued leadership in driving social impact. The company has gained widespread acclaim for its deliberate “44-50-50” leadership model, which promotes gender parity, and its broader efforts to leverage technology for socioeconomic empowerment.
Speaking to Prime Africa News team, Mr. Peter Njioka, Safaricom’s Head of Talent and HR Shared Services, emphasized the importance of inclusivity, particularly during a time when many youths feel marginalized.
“Being here today is a clear manifestation that Safaricom is here for Kenyans since it’s the better option,” Mr. Njioka said. He explained that Safaricom’s model focuses on ensuring that communities, including the marginalized, feel the impact of the company through targeted initiatives in education, talent development, and socioeconomic growth.
“We thank the DIAR Awards for the recognition and promise Kenyans that Safaricom is ready to bring everyone on board,” he added.
The DIAR Awards continue to serve as a vital beacon, spotlighting the institutions and individuals who are championing a more equitable, sustainable, and cohesive future for all Kenyans.
