NAIROBI, Kenya, (Prime Africa) – More than one hundred Kenyan workers have left the country to take up new employment opportunities abroad, thanks to the government’s Kazi Majuu program. The workers, who departed via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), are heading to countries including Iraq, Qatar, Russia, Dubai, and Serbia.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Labour, aims to tackle rising unemployment by facilitating structured and safe labour migration. Most of the workers in this latest batch are set to join the construction sector, taking up skilled and semi-skilled roles.

Speaking before departure, the workers expressed deep appreciation for the program, describing it as a life-changing opportunity. Many noted that the overseas jobs promise better earnings and the potential to significantly improve the living standards of their families back home.

“We are grateful to the government for making this possible. This is a new chapter for us, and we are confident that it will transform our lives,” said one of the beneficiaries.

The group also voiced strong support for the Kazi Majuu initiative amid criticisms from some quarters. They called on Kenyans still waiting for placement to remain patient and trust the process, which they described as transparent and merit-based.

This milestone follows a recent statement by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, who reaffirmed the success of the program. He noted that several batches of workers have already secured jobs abroad, with thousands more expected to follow in the coming months.

“Kazi Majuu is a critical part of our strategy to empower Kenyan youth, reduce unemployment, and expand our nation’s global workforce footprint,” Mutua said.

The Kazi Majuu program reflects the government’s commitment to creating structured pathways for Kenyan workers to access international job markets while ensuring their safety and rights are protected.
