KIBERA, NAIROBI – In a powerful show of community-centered healthcare, DeckerMed Africa Trust, in partnership with the Lavington Rotary Club, Nairobi, today delivered a transformative medical outreach at Kibera D.O Health Centre, offering critical health services to over 400 underserved women and girls.
Under the theme “Neglected Women’s Diseases (NWD),” the camp focused on conditions often overlooked in low-resource settings, including cervical and breast cancer, obstetric fistula, pelvic organ prolapse, endometriosis, and other chronic gynecological challenges. Women also received free screenings for diabetes, hypertension, malaria, and HIV, along with access to general medical consultations and essential medication.
The outreach reflected the shared vision of both DeckerMed and the Lavington Rotary Club to elevate women’s health through strategic partnerships and grassroots impact.
“Our continued efforts alongside the Lavington Rotary Club, Nairobi reflect our commitment to scale what works and deliver lasting health solutions to the grassroots,” said Esther Baraga, Director of Development at DeckerMed Africa Trust.
“This partnership exemplifies how collective action can transform the health and dignity of women.”

The initiative was co-led by Wambui Karanja, President of the Lavington Rotary Club, and Baraga, whose collaboration has become a model for sustainable public health solutions through service club networks and development organizations.
A standout element of the outreach was the Betty Lloyd Clinic, dedicated to the memory of the late Betty Lloyd, who succumbed to cancer. Integrated into the camp, the clinic delivered specialized breast and cervical cancer screenings, enabling early detection for women who often face barriers to timely diagnosis.
The outreach left a tangible human impact. Mama Elidah Akinyi, one of the day’s many beneficiaries, shared her gratitude:
“I’m so thankful to the organizers. I got the help I needed and walked away feeling better and hopeful.”
The success of the event was anchored in strong partnerships. Malibu Pharmacy Ltd donated essential medicines and medical supplies, while Milele FM amplified community awareness as the media partner. Other key supporters included Africa Cancer Foundation, Essilor Luxottica, and Mr. and Miss World Kenya, whose participation expanded the camp’s reach and impact.
On the ground, local coordination was steered by Linet Were, Nursing Officer Lead at Kibera D.O Health Centre, whose leadership ensured efficient service delivery and patient care.
As another milestone in DeckerMed’s mission to advance healthcare equity, the Kibera outreach exemplifies how targeted, community-based interventions can restore health, dignity, and hope to Kenya’s underserved women.
