The government has assured Kenyans that the country has sufficient petroleum stocks to meet national demand and that fuel supply remains stable across the country despite growing concerns over global energy market uncertainties.
Speaking during a familiarization tour of key petroleum infrastructure facilities in the Coast Region, Principal Secretary for Petroleum,  said Kenya continues to maintain adequate fuel reserves, with additional petroleum cargoes already on their way to further strengthen national stocks.
The PS noted that the country’s current fuel reserves are sufficient to sustain demand for more than a month, underscoring the resilience of Kenya’s petroleum supply chain and storage infrastructure.
“Kenya has consistently maintained a stable and reliable fuel supply system that compares favourably with many countries in the region. We have adequate stocks, additional cargoes on the way, and robust infrastructure that enables us to sustain supply and shield consumers from fuel shortages and price volatility,” said Harsama.
He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening strategic petroleum infrastructure, expanding storage capacity, improving efficiency throughout the supply chain, and supporting investments that reinforce Kenya’s position as a regional energy and logistics hub.
At Kipevu Oil Terminal 2, Harsama witnessed ongoing fuel offloading operations and praised the facility’s strategic role in facilitating the importation and handling of petroleum products for both Kenya and the wider East African region.
He noted that the modern terminal has significantly enhanced the country’s capacity to receive large fuel shipments efficiently, helping to guarantee uninterrupted fuel supply while supporting regional trade and economic growth.
The visit also highlighted the Government’s broader efforts to promote investment in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gas storage infrastructure as part of Kenya’s clean energy transition agenda.
According to the Ministry, expanding LPG storage and distribution capacity will improve access to affordable clean cooking energy, strengthen supply resilience, and reduce dependence on traditional cooking fuels that contribute to environmental degradation.
As Kenya continues to pursue its energy security goals, the Government says investments in petroleum and gas infrastructure remain critical in ensuring reliable fuel supply, supporting industrial growth, and positioning the country as East Africa’s leading energy and logistics gateway.
