Sudan Embassy in Nairobi Issues Urgent Appeal to Stop “Genocide in El Fasher” as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Nairobi has sounded a grave alarm to the international community, calling for immediate and decisive intervention to halt what it describes as a genocide unfolding in El Fasher, North Darfur. The embassy says the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia has continued to commit war crimes and atrocities on a scale not seen in decades, leaving the city’s population trapped under siege, starvation, and relentless violence.

For nearly two years, El Fasher, historically a cultural and commercial heart of Darfur, has been transformed into a landscape of devastation. According to the embassy, the RSF has carried out sustained attacks using heavy artillery, drones, and sniper fire deliberately aimed at civilian neighborhoods. Essential supplies including food, medicine, and fuel have been cut off, shutting down schools and hospitals and leaving more than one million residents surrounded and vulnerable.

Humanitarian agencies and eyewitnesses report harrowing scenes: house-to-house killings, public executions, mass graves, the destruction of entire communities, and widespread sexual violence against women and girls. Hospitals and humanitarian convoys have been targeted, and civilians seeking safety have been turned back or caught in direct fire.

“This is not a civil conflict. It is an organized campaign of extermination,” the embassy stated.

International concern has escalated. United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Africa, Martha Akyyaa, recently described the situation in El Fasher as “horrifying,” citing mounting evidence of ethnic cleansing and systematic attacks on non-combatants. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has also voiced alarm over “large-scale, ethnically motivated killings.”

Investigations by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and independent journalists have documented drone strikes on residential zones, assaults on medical facilities, and widespread torture and sexual abuse. Some reports have raised concerns about the alleged use of chemical agents, though these claims are still under review.

The Sudanese government says it has traced weapons and logistics support for the RSF to illicit international supply networks. The embassy is calling for urgent sanctions against any state or actor found providing military, financial, or technological support to the militia. It also wants the RSF designated as a terrorist organization under international law.

“Every day of global silence costs Sudanese lives,” the embassy said. “Every weapon supplied to the RSF is turned against civilians.”

The embassy urged global institutions, African governments, civil society organizations, and the media to raise their voices and demand accountability. It drew parallels to historic global failures to prevent genocide, warning that hesitation now could carry irreparable human consequences.

Despite the suffering, the Sudanese government insists that the nation remains united and determined to resist what it describes as an attempt to fracture the country through terror.

“Sudan will never surrender to terror,” the statement concluded. “Our sovereignty, unity, and dignity will prevail. The martyrs of El Fasher will not be forgotten. Those responsible will face the judgment of history.”

The embassy is calling for immediate humanitarian corridors, international sanctions targeting RSF supply chains, and international criminal investigations into atrocities committed.

As global attention remains divided, Sudan’s message is resolute: the world must act now, not after the graves have already been filled.
