NAIROBI, Kenya — The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced the commencement of its Repeat Phase II grassroots elections set for Thursday, April 23, 2026, in what marks a significant milestone in the party’s ongoing nationwide consolidation drive.

The exercise follows the successful completion of grassroots polls in 25 counties, where 235,923 officials were elected, and now enters a critical second phase widely viewed as one of the most extensive internal democratic processes undertaken by a political party in Kenya.

According to the party, elections will be held across 18 counties, with a special voting schedule for Kajiado County on Saturday, April 25. Polling stations will operate from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The exercise reflects UDA’s expanding national reach, with over 450,000 candidates vying for 20 positions at each polling centre. The positions are structured to ensure inclusive representation, incorporating women, youth, farmers, professionals, religious leaders, MSMEs, traders, and other special interest groups. An estimated eight million voters are expected to participate across 9,117 polling centres nationwide.

UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire described the elections as a cornerstone of the party’s democratic framework.

“This process reflects our unwavering commitment to building a strong, inclusive, and people-driven movement where leadership emerges from the will of the people,” she said.

Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability, noting that comprehensive systems have been put in place to ensure credible outcomes.

“We are committed to conducting free, fair, and verifiable elections. This exercise demonstrates our belief in internal democracy and our resolve to let the voice of the people shape our leadership structures,” he stated.

In a move aimed at enhancing efficiency and credibility, the party will deploy 9,500 electronic voting tablets to oversee voter verification and results transmission. Results will be made publicly accessible in real time through the party’s official portal.

Upon completion, the elections are expected to yield 182,240 grassroots officials, each carrying a direct mandate from the electorate. These officials are set to play a pivotal role in strengthening the party’s structures as it prepares for future political contests.

The Repeat Phase II exercise further cements UDA’s position at the forefront of internal party democracy, setting the stage for a robust and participatory political landscape in Kenya.
