President William Ruto has lauded the newly signed KSh80 billion cooperation agreement between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government, terming it a bold step toward resolving long-standing infrastructure and service delivery challenges in the capital.
Speaking during an inspection tour of Dagoretti South and Dagoretti North constituencies on Tuesday, the Head of State said the partnership is designed to tackle critical issues affecting residents, including inadequate water supply, poor sewerage systems, unreliable connectivity, and deteriorating road networks.
“The agreement we have reached with the County Government of Nairobi is aimed at transforming the city and addressing the challenges that have hindered its full potential,” President Ruto stated.
The President emphasized that beyond infrastructure, the pact is anchored on expanding economic opportunities for young people through employment creation and support for small businesses.
“We are keen on ensuring that more young people get meaningful work and business opportunities that will improve their livelihoods,” he said.
During the tour, President Ruto inspected construction works at the Dagoretti Sub-County Level IV Hospital in Mutuini, Dagoretti South. He announced that the facility is being upgraded into a 400-bed hospital, fully equipped to enhance access to quality and affordable healthcare.
“We are expanding the hospital to make it a 400-bed facility, which we will equip and hand over next month to guarantee the people of Dagoretti South accessible and quality medical care,” he affirmed.
At PC Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute, where he officially opened a new workshops block, the President reiterated that education remains the “greatest equaliser” in society.
He noted that the government has recruited more teachers and tutors, expanded education infrastructure, and increased funding for higher education to drive human capital development.
Additionally, he revealed plans to construct hostels for 580 students at the institution at a cost of KSh250 million in the first phase.
In Dagoretti South, President Ruto also inspected progress at the Riruta Modern Market, expressing satisfaction with the pace of construction. The market is expected to be commissioned in May 2026, providing improved working conditions for traders.
The President later inaugurated a 20-classroom block at Kawangware Comprehensive School in Dagoretti North, observing that the learning environment had significantly improved over the past year.
County Government Endorsement
Johnson Sakaja, Governor of Nairobi City County Government, welcomed the partnership, saying it would deliver sustainable urban transformation and improved services to city residents.
Several leaders accompanied the President during the visit, including Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor Jalang’o, and Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu.
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding learning opportunities, strengthening healthcare systems, and modernizing infrastructure as part of a broader mission to build a more equal and transformed Kenya.
