Eldoret, Kenya — Students from Kachororoni and Gandini primary schools in Kilifi County were on Tuesday hosted at President William Ruto’s Sugoi farm in Eldoret for an immersive educational tour aimed at inspiring a new generation of young farmers.

Led by First Lady Rachel Ruto, the pupils were taken through a practical learning session featuring horticulture, poultry, and dairy farming, exposing them to modern agricultural techniques rarely accessible in the arid parts of Kilifi where the schools are located.

Mrs. Ruto shared the President’s personal story of rising from a modest background to becoming one of the country’s successful large-scale poultry farmers, encouraging the learners to believe in their potential.

“It doesn’t matter what people say about where you come from. Great dreams and great people are born anywhere,” she told the students.

She urged the children to work hard, respect their teachers and use education as a pathway to transform their communities.

“Respect your teachers because they bring up people who later become greater than them. Work hard and get out of that village and into the world,” she said.

The First Lady also encouraged schools to strengthen exchange programs and fact-finding missions to broaden learners’ exposure.

The two Kilifi schools, located in dry and remote regions, have been actively promoting early agricultural interest through 4K Clubs, which teach pupils basic farming skills and agribusiness concepts.

Mrs. Ruto emphasized the need for unity and peace as pillars for Kenya’s progress.

“We want a Kenya full of peace and unity. This is what the President has been advocating — a Kenya where all people love one another and no individual wants to harm the other,” she added.

Teachers and students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity, calling the visit eye-opening and impactful.

“We are very happy to visit your farm. We have gained a lot of knowledge,” said Ms. Pauline Moses, Principal of Kachororoni Primary School.

During her wider visit to Kilifi, the First Lady also spearheaded several empowerment initiatives:

Kitchen Garden Initiative

Mrs. Ruto launched a model kitchen garden project under the Women Economic Empowerment Program, aimed at promoting household food security through sustainable agriculture.
According to Ms. Hellen Kabibi, Principal of Gandini Comprehensive School, the kitchen gardens established by the First Lady have already begun benefiting local families.

Voice of Children Initiative

She highlighted ongoing efforts by the government and partners to safeguard children’s rights through her Voice of Children platform.

“We are championing child provision, child protection, and child participation to create a nurturing environment where children’s rights are recognised, protected, and fulfilled,” she said.

Mrs. Ruto noted that empowering children and strengthening families are essential to Kenya’s long-term socio-economic resilience.

The students are expected to replicate the knowledge gained at Sugoi in their school farms and communities, furthering the country’s efforts to build a generation that values agriculture, innovation, and national unity.
